Yesterday we got to see the Dodge Dart that the guys rented for their time in Florida attempt to do a burnout, and all we got was a sound that made me wonder if someone was scaring a puppy and just enough smoke to make me think that a coolant line had popped. Not good, though let’s all be honest, asking a late-model economy car like a Dart to do a burnout is like asking Rebel Wilson to do a striptease: sure, you could, but why would you?
The same line of thought goes to pretty much any product that Hyundai has put out. Yes, the Equus and Genesis sedan have some decent power. Yes, a Genesis coupe can hang it’s tail out and not embarrass itself. I’m not talking about those Hyundais…take for example this particular pink car. We saw it here as the Accent, while the rest of the world knew it by a even more derided name: Excel. Whatever it was called, this car appeared in 1994 and ran out through 2000, and somehow this became one of Australia’s most popular imported cars. I sincerely hope the price was cheap enough, because everything else about that rolling pile screams “I give up.” However, a rear wheel drive conversion, an LS powertrain and an Aussie with a heavy right foot can improve the looks quite a bit.
Or, at least, do a better burnout.
