We love small-tire doorslammer racing around here, and the Aussies love it too, and for good reason: It’s exciting drag racing. Watching high-power cars put the power down on small tires is a matter of skill and suspension tuning wizardry, and when it all comes together great things happen. The Aussies know their way around big mills, but seeing four-bangers and at least one very nasty six-cylinder Mitsubishi breaks up the usual regiment of Camaros and Novas. What is fairly surprising is that there aren’t as many Aussie-grown cars as you’d expect: Other than a couple of Holden Toranas, a Gemini and possibly a Falcon, the rest of the rides are imported. How else does a Pontiac Grand Am doorslammer wind up in Australia?
I love watching Aussie drag racing!
They stick huge motors into tiny Japanese cars and launch them into the stratosphere – but what really lights my fire is the sound and fury of the Mazda rotary engines that are good for over 1,000 horse power and the way they just leave big V8s standing like they were stuck in concrete.
Good on yer, mates and thank you Full Boost!
