Most ten-second cars have some kind of giveaway, and usually it is noisy, be it exhaust or a power adder. It takes a lot of effort to package up that kind of performance and keep it as quiet as a stock car straight off of the dealership floor. It would be difficult enough with a Nissan GT-R, but when the car you’re working with is a brand new Volkswagen Golf R, it’s a little more difficult. The new Golf R is a pretty decent little package to start with, boasting nearly 300 horsepower, all-wheel-drive and launch control, but ten seconds is still ten seconds and a lot of work has to go into making the power and keeping all of the drivetrain happy and in one piece. This one has had bolt-on parts added, including a new turbo system and one extremely heavy-duty clutch for the DSG six-speed, and the performance speaks for itself…especially since there’s very, very little noise to give away what’s going on. And as for durability, the car was driven 300 miles round-trip to the dragstrip, and did fifteen passes that night. If you’re in Australia and this silver lunchbox rolls up next to you, make sure you’re ready to play, otherwise this VW is going to hand your lunch to you on a silver platter.
