I have to say that when I saw this 1978 Ford Rollback Tow Truck the only thing I wished was that it was a crew cab. Rollback trucks are awesome, if not as popular with the hot rod crowd as a ramp truck. That’s probably because they usually cost a lot to get. In fact, we’ve looked at rollback beds before and even used they are stupid money. So for $7500 this old Ford in Georgia is a pretty good sounding deal! I dig the all steel bed and the flap at the back that comes down to the ground. I wish they had pictures of it in action, but I can imagine an old hot rod or Funny Car on this thing. Can’t you?
It’s got a 370 in it, which I had to look up because I had never heard of it before. Ironically it is a Ford 385 Series engine, but doesn’t have the 3.85 inch stroke crank that the engine series was named for. But, it does have the same stroke as a 429, so that makes it cool or something. I’m sure it make virtually no power but has the torque to move this thing thanks to a camshaft that is probably smaller than the stocker in my 283.
I’d likely do something fun with the old 370 and replace it with something newer and bigger or that runs on Diesel and rhymes with Cummins.
What do you think? What would you do with this thing?
