Walking around Beech Bend, looking at and photographing as many cars as I could, I kept playing a game in my head. I’ve done this for years, will probably do it until I die, and it’s simple: dream up the scenario where, in a perfect world, you are cut loose with that car for X amount of time, no repercussions, no questions asked. Do whatever you feel like doing. What would you do? The drag cars were pretty easy…drag race, burnouts for days, or see how far I could hang the front tires. The show cars, on the other hand, brought out creativity. There was a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, all black, sitting on a perfect set of slot mags that made me think of a beautiful alternative to the General Lee: sideways everywhere with the engine singing as loud as possible. Or maybe I’d take the 1958 Impala convertible the entire length of the California coast, top down, cruising. Or maybe you could be like this guy, cut loose with a Lamborghini Countach 5000QV, and decide to drift the damn thing just because you can. Let’s put the time limit at 30 minutes. The owner of the car tossed you the keys and said “Take care of her”, and you’re the delinquent valet. What car would it be, and what would you do?

Actually, such a thought for me might have something to do with a Trophy Truck…and really, I doubt what I would do or try to do would hurt it any…sure would be fun though.
