This 429-powered Ford Torino GT Gets Revved To The Moon As The Tires Go Up In Smoke!

This 429-powered Ford Torino GT Gets Revved To The Moon As The Tires Go Up In Smoke!

I’m having a form of cabin fever in July…this isn’t right, but it is happening. Why? Two reasons: the Angry Grandpa 300C does not do a burnout worth mentioning right now. Stupid traction control. We’ll deal with that soon enough. The other reason is that the car that was intended to do burnouts, the Raven Imperial, is on hiatus as the engine sits in a machine shop, a victim of a backlogged machinist. Once that car comes together…oh, you’d better believe I’m gonna be stockpiling every Mopar wheel and tire I can grab from a junkyard for a sacrificial offering to the horsepower gods. But in the meantime, I’m stuck with one vehicle that spins tires: our riding lawnmower, and only on slightly wet grass with the nose pointed uphill. Lame.

In the meantime, though, I have YouTube to keep the spirit of tire frying alive, and my searches led me to this older footage of a Ford Torino getting one hell of a workout. I don’t know where this was filmed, and the only word I understand is “burnout”. Fine by me. But when the big black Ford comes to life, it makes sure everybody nearby knows it as the big-block screams like a banshee. We might not be able to do much about the “Video by Potato” quality, but the sound is spot-on. I could listen to that all day long!

This was 2008 at Finnish Ford Nationals Burn Out Contest. Driver is Ville Sievers who also has a neat 1966 Fairlane and powerful 1980 Ford Fairmont. This Torino he sold a while ago to fellow Ford-Freak. Here is a little better quality video that I shot at the same event. Enjoy!
