Apparently the guys at Chevrolet just debuted the new 2013 Chevrolet SS which will run in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and we weren’t even paying attention. Sorry. I have to admit it looks cooler than the stupid cars they have been running for the past few years, but it’s still some four door sedan and that’s just not right. Full size two-door American iron is what NASCAR is supposed to be about. But they forgot that years and years ago.
Ultimately the only reason I wrote this was to ask if you care about the new Chevrolet SS for NASCAR? And if you do, why? We want to know what you think.
It don’t matter what they are, ’cause they’re too stickered up to tell ’em apart………
To me, Nascar is the mentally-challenged roommate of Indy Car’s cousin, while Indy Car is the underachieving little brother of F1.
Open wheel racing is ALWAYS better.
I’d put Dakar, Baja, or any number of off-road racing events ahead of Nascar as well. I’d also put drag racing ahead of Nascar, but only because it’s more accessible.
In other words, I think Nascar sucks in comparison to most other racing events. I’m at a loss when it comes to explaining the popularity of the event…I just don’t understand why someone would watch a Nascar race if any other auto racing event was on.
Do I give a shit about NASCAR? No.
About the Chevy SS? Somewhat. It’s got potential, but it’s gonna be priced out of my range, so whatever.
NASCAR has so much potential, I say shorten the races by about 300 miles. Make the tickets, parking, food, drinks affordable. Oh and lets make the racing exciting again, I have been to races at Fontana where I fell asleep for over an hour, and didn’t miss a thing. … Put them on a few more road courses (without the ringers), and lets go back to the roots of the sport… put them back on the dirt, not all year, but at least a few races.
YEAH! Lightning McQueen rules!
One racecourse, with road, oval, AND dirt!
What’s Nascar ? Is that the series where they choose the winner before the race starts and hope he makes it through all the wreckage ? Yeah, that must be it.
Please patronize your local race tracks before they are all gone. Oh, they actually “race”, no mystery debris cautions, and most will let your kids sit in their car after the races. Nascar is on parr with watching golf these days.
Do I care about the new Nascar Chevy? No. It has nothing in common with anything that is available at the dealer.
I care juuuust enough to post that I don’t give shit.
Actually, I only hope NASCAR survives so they (the teams) continue to buy from companies like ARP, Moroso, MSD and the like. Thus helping them turn a profit so I can keep buying the stuff I need from those companies.
Why can’t the automakers supply the body shells and then let the race shops apply them to the COT chassis. They would make the cars safe, more identifiable for the fans and get the car companies to build good looking aero cars.
What would Smokey Yunick have done?
I think they should put some dirt tires on those cars and run them at Eldora!!!!!
No. If they were stock block, trans case, and used the factory body, I’d be interested in “stock” car racing.
Don’t really care what the stickers say, but I would do horrible things in exchange for the opportunity to drive one for a few hours.
Drinking beer and watching NASCAR! Bubba J.
Is Nascrap still in business? As to does anyone care, I certainly don’t. Jellybean cars don’t do anything for me, especially with a non existent COT body.
The Nascar Party is OVER!
Is this the one thats supposedly an Aussie VE Commodore?? Doesn’t really look much like one if it is, and I suppose there’s the problem in a nutshell. If car heads can’t even tell wwhat the hell its supposed to be without a bunch of stickers to remind you then why bother? It reminds me of when you played slot cars as a kid – don’t wanna drive the Ford slot car? Fine – pop the body off and stick on a Chevy or whatever body. Same thing happened here (in Australia) with our V8 Supercar series – under the skin they are so similar its not funny – up until not, there have been Ford and GM (Holden ) cars only in that series, starting in a month Nissan are fielding a car – only problem being Nissan don’t even make or sell a V8 car (here at least) so what exactly are we watching? Same as NASCAR, everyone gave up caring and the only people who watch are bogans who are only looking for nice gory crashes….
those fender flares will never fit the template……….
I have been saying for years that NASCAR ought to have a couple of dirt stops on their schedule.
As hotrodcharlie said above, visit your local tracks, whether dirt or asphalt. That’s where the grassroots version of NASCAR is, and that’s where the racing is really and truly exciting. And, besides, if they have a street stock class or something comparable, they’re already running the kind of cars that we’re familiar with and that we’d like to see on the track: plenty of older GM A- and G-bodies, even some B-bodies, and the odd Ford and Mopar. The real fun begins if you get behind the wheel. Nothing like sawing the wheel on a dirt track, having mud pellets knock your helmet around, and hearing 10-15 other sets of open-headered small blocks roaring to life as you round 4th for the green. It’s a friggin’ riot.
