Why don’t they write simple songs like this anymore that talk about how bitchin cars were and what was done to them? Who knows, but we sure dig listening to the old ones since they are so specific. With a Corvette mill, metal flake paint, naugahyde buckets, stereophonic speakers, and mag wheels, it sounds like a Custom Machine we’d like to own.
Custom Machine was one of the songs the Beach Boys recorded on their Double Platinum “Little Deuce Couple” LP Album which reached the number 4 spot on the charts. With huge hits like “Little Deuce Coupe”, “Be True To Your School”, “409”, “Shut Down”, “Spirit of America” which was out about Craig Breedlove and his penchant for speed at Bonneville, and “A Young Man Is Gone” which was about James Dean and his untimely deatch, this may be one of the most kit packed LPs of the 60’s.
I grew up listening to most of this album and can sing all these hits word for word. Great stuff for sure. Check out my “Custom Machine” below.
Funny, I was listening to Adam Carolla yesterday breaking down “Shut Down”. Pretty amusing though he mixed up a 413 max wedge for 4.13 gears.
