Ever since the North American Touring Car Championship (NATCC) kicked the bucket in 1997, American has had to source their fix of honest cars running against each other at high speed from Europe. DTM, V8 SuperStars and the British Touring Car Championship racing, put bluntly, beats the shit out of watching NASCAR…seeing what would otherwise be pedestrian vehicles getting ran to the ragged edge does something for us that we cannot quite explain. Why this type of racing isn’t more popular in the United States we can’t explain either…these aren’t silouhette racecars, but modified production vehicles that go out and raise hell on tracks across America. USTCC has been around a couple of years, but honestly, until I started hunting around YouTube, I didn’t know it existed. The list of vehicles eligible to race is extensive…newer cars like Mitsubishi Evos and Hyundai Genesis Coupes can trade paint with Dodge SRT-4s, older Ford Taurus SHOs and even the Mazda MX-6…the car we know a little bit better as the Ford Probe’s less unsightly twin. It might be low-buck racing but that’s badass in our book. This footage is from Miller Motorsports Park and was filmed last year…check this out!
