Craigslist Find: A Cut-Away Pontiac OHC-6 Engine! How Cool Is This?!

Craigslist Find: A Cut-Away Pontiac OHC-6 Engine! How Cool Is This?!

It might only be good as a decoration, but this cut-away Pontiac overhead cam inline-six cylinder engine would make an awesome conversation piece in the garage or anywhere else you could make room for it! We don’t know if this is the 230ci or 250ci version of the motor that powered Pontiacs from 1966 to 1969, but that’s of little concern for a static showpiece. What is neat is that this looks to be a professional cutaway, has an electric motor that spins the engine over to demonstrate the motion of the internals, and that the likelihood of finding another like it is nearly nil. The electric motor isn’t hooked up, so that would have to be fixed as soon as possible, but for an engineering fan, a Pontiac fan or someone who wants a neat piece of automotive history, you would be hard-pressed to do better than this.

It’s rare that the word “rare” is left out of an ebay or craigslist item for sale. You’d think by now people wouldn’t be influenced by that word. Somehow, people rarely see through that.

I could agree more. I made a Facebook post about this a while back. The only thing becoming rare is a Craigslist or Ebay ad that doesn’t start out saying RARE!

This is a screaming deal. Most Motorcycle cut away engines go for double that price. Hope it finds the right home.

From the pictures, I would be nearly positive that this was a GM built display engine for the auto show circuit circa 1965-66. It’s on Detroit Craigslist and is in Michigan so most likely someone “requisitioned” it from Pontiac Motors at some point years ago. There might have been a handful of these made and few of them in circulation so yes it is rare. Not a bad deal if you are a Pontiac nut.

I’m trying to build a business case for the boss to persuade him we need to buy this so we can put it in our display booth at the next PRI show.
