Australian Pro Stock racer takes a short flight during ANDRA race

In January, Australian Pro Stock racer Bill Perdikaris ripped his Ford ZX2 down the right side of Calder Park’s strip during an Australian National Pro Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) event and while he didn’t look to be on the way to the win, he suddenly had bigger problems after the half-track mark. The car got sideways in a hurry and immediately after Perdikaris corrected, the ZX2 rolled hard into the left lane. After a short flight and subsequent landing on the driver’s side, the car rotated just a bit more and the floor pan caught a ton of air while still moving at a good clip.

For a brief moment, it looked like Perdikaris might go on a sailing expedition.Instead, the Ford settles back eventually back on terra firma and barrels into the wall, coming to a stop against. Perdikaris walked away from the wreck and was cleared by medical staff at Calder Park.

If you’ve got the time, watch the video in slow motion [Pro tip: Click the gear icon on the video’s bottom toolbar and set the speed to 0.25] and take a look at how the crazy aerodynamic wake of Perdikaris’ car (and probably his opponent’s car) picks up the stray body panels and whirls them around like a tornado. This is a crazy one.

Is it time to put roof flaps on Pro Stock and Top Sportsman cars? Maybe Pro Mod also.
