The sun came out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for the first Somernites Cruise of the year, and so did the gearheads! Every last Saturday from here to October, the town of Somerset, Kentucky opens up and welcomes automobile enthusiasts and spectators for two days’ worth of cruising, showing, and fun, and as always, the Somernites Cruise staff have their stuff together that somehow manages to put together a show that is massive in scale, filled with the entire spectrum of gearhead imaginable, in an environment that is family-friendly and accessible. This year, Somernites got two new sponsors, fuel company Valero and Mellow Mushroom, home of one of the tastiest pizzas around!
Somernites always runs a theme for each show, and for the first event, it was a new one, “Trucks”. We will show you the trucks of Somernites, soon, but for now we will show you the cars of the show. One other thing that Somernites does is on Saturday morning, before the downtown car show and evening cruising, is put together something fun to do, be it a drive somewhere interesting, a trip to London Dragway, or such. Yesterday’s fun activity: Dyno day at Chicken Hawk Motorsports, just a block up from the Hardee’s that provides free breakfasts to cruisers that show up! Thomas and crew at Chicken Hawk offer up their DynoJet’s services, providing two pulls for $60, and to the high-horsepower leader at the end of the day, a free dyno tune. Once again, we put Angry Grandpa on the rollers, and once again, we underachieved. (Hey, we did gain 1.77 horsepower somewhere…that’s a win, right?) The winner this round…at least, the leader when we had to leave…was the the Duramax Chevrolet, who laid out the 636 RWHP blast…on his soft tune! But when downtown fills up with cars in just about every nook and cranny, you owe it to yourself to wander the streets of this awesome little town and see the iron for yourself!
Looks like a great time. A bit of everything showed up, even some AMC’s!
Thanks for the great coverage guys!
