It’s funny how picky people can be when it comes to cars. You can almost hear the conversation now: “Dude, I think it’s a Grand National! No, wait, it’s white…is it a T-type? Aw, man…it’s just a Regal.” Not to be too pointed, but outside of the engine, it’s the same car! The “standard” Buick Regal is still a G-body, but much like the other premium version, the Pontiac Grand Prix, the Regal tends to get overlooked or converted into a GN clone. Honestly, there’s more than enough all-black Buicks running around, and we would suggest to anyone who is looking closely at this example to avoid cloning it.
That’s not to say that it won’t need some work, but most of this Regal’s issues are visual. A fresh coat of paint and a repaired vinyl top will go miles towards helping it out. The interior could use a good scrubbing, but it’s useable for the time being. Nothing about this Buick would make us worry about whether or not it could be driven, so picking it up for $3,300 wouldn’t bother us. But what would you do with it? The Oldsmobile 307 and 200R4 could be turned into something street worthy, but would you keep that around or would you go for a new powertrain? Would you stay Buick and start building up a turbo six or stay V8? Drag car, handling car, NASCAR tribute, or restoration? It’s a running, driving G-body…therefore it’s a blank canvas!
Easy turbo LS 🙂
Any 78-88 A/G body is a fun car to own! Had my share of them.
Rover/Buick Aluminum V8 with twin turbos and set it up to be a roadcourse car.
Then again, I’m a Buick nut and weird.
Back at the height of the Grand National days in the early 90’s, actually knew a kid that painted his white. People were getting wise to the black ones and nobody would race him.
Things must be different out in the desert sun cause no one turns their nose up at a g body regal here,
I’ve always wanted to build one of these with a full tilt twin turbo 455, and a yellow and black GS style paint scheme.
I have always wanted to G Body Manual Trans swap.
