There are many tired, hackneyed cliches about never giving up in the face of defeat. And they exist for a reason: You aren’t defeated until you either give up or can’t physically move anymore. If you keep fighting, you always have a chance of claiming a victory, cost be damned, and everybody loves the story of an underdog who clenches victory from the jaws of defeat. (Dammit, there goes another cliche…) Andy Reynolds and his 1979 Chevrolet Malibu wagon recently got the chance to prove all of those saying right when #6 cylinder in his 11.0:1 Dart-headed 400ci mill packed it’s bags and called it a day. That’s normally a clue to the team to load the car up and call it a night, but Reynolds kept on with the program, spraying the wounded engine with enough nitrous to knock out a bull elephant until the final round. The fact that they made it that far on seven cylinders and a ton of spray is awesome enough, but the final round would determine if it was all for nought. How did they do? Play the video, man…
“we’re not pushing it until we see sparks off the roof rack”
love it.
