The Petersen Museum Is Hosting A Free Screening Of Bullitt With Free Popcorn And $1 Milkshakes!

(Text By Darr Hawthorne)  (Chad Note: The cool stuff always happens when we’re out of town! While Brian and I are on our way to Palm Beach for the PRO Winter Warmup, the folks at the Petersen Automotive Museum will be hosting a killer night of fun.) For car-geeks, Bullitt is one of the most iconic and fast paced action movies to ever have been made, and it is coming up for a special showing at the Petersen Automotive Museum on Wednesday January 15th at 7pm. The showing will be free of charge, and includes free popcorn and $1 Johnny Rockets milkshakes! You’ll just have to pay for parking, so bring a carload and make them pay since you’re the one driving.

“Bullitt” is the 1968 Peter Yates movie set in the streets of San Francisco starring Steve McQueen as Police Lieutenant Frank Bullitt and an opportunistic, villainous Robert Vaughn as his political adversary with a little sex on the side from McQueen’s gorgeous movie girlfriend Jacqueline Bisset.  It’s even got a young Robert Duvall and a bunch of other character actors you’ve seen all over the big screen.

The killer chase sequence on city streets, filmed at speeds over 110 mph, between McQueen’s British Racing Green Mustang (with American Torque-Thrust wheels) and the criminals in a black ’68 Dodge Charger has been a template for other movies and TV commercials since the release of Bullitt.  If you are familiar with the chase, did you know that Director Yates used two Ford Mustangs and two Dodge Chargers for the infamous chase and that the Mustangs were on loan to Warner Brothers by the Ford Motor Company for PR purposes?

Mark your calendars gearheads, this event can be nothing but awesome and a chance to see a great movie at one of our special museums, the Peterson.

One of our local movie theaters has classic movie night a few times a month and I’ve asked the manager to consider showing some car movies. I suggested Two Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point, he said he’d look into it. I’d love to see Bullitt on the big screen also.
