I find it kind of surprising that you can still hit up Craigslist and find decently priced Fox Mustangs within the first page or two of searching. They’re so popular it’s not even funny, the aftermarket is saturated with parts, there’s parts cars everywhere you look, and you can do literally any and everything your heart desires to them. No, really…ask some of your more redneck-y friends about lifted Mustangs going mudding. They’ll show you videos. And the surprising thing about all of it is, the prices are still attainable. You aren’t going to get a pretty 1990s Mustang GT or SSP car for cheap, but if you aren’t picky, all you have to do is pick between roof or ragtop, then flip a coin between notch and hatch if you want metal between you and the sky, and go from there.
Take this 1985 GT. This is pretty typical: shot paint, an interior that needs three days’ worth of cleaning, mods that might be questionable or might be awesome, and a $3,000 price tag. Running, driving, 302 and a five-speed manual. Bonuses: a limited slip rear axle and tags that are good until the middle of next year. Not that we’d recommend driving on someone else’s registration, but it’s nice to know that you could wait a few days before you have to go to the DMV. Ten-hole wheels (always a nice stock choice) top it off. Honestly…spend a few hours at a good car wash cleaning the carpets, make sure the 302 isn’t seconds away from disaster, and for your $5,000 Rough Start budget, you will wind up with almost two grand left over. Yes, Fox Mustangs are common as a bellybutton, but here’s why: stupidly cheap fun. What are you waiting for?

Fox bodies are even cheaper in the UK and last year I saw a mint example with a 5 litre V8 and a cool body kit for sale locally for £3500! They are in my opinion the best Mustang body style and way better than the current bloated pastiche of the classic 64 – 68 cars.
5.0 Fox body prices are all over the place down here in NC. Finding a nice stocker is a little difficult since almost everbody modified them.
Too bad I`m in Canada , I`ll buy it !
