The FAA Would Like A Word, Sir: Watch Mike Barran’s Pro Street Camaro Taking Flight At Shakedown At The Summit!

The action during the Shakedown At The Summit 14 race in Norwalk, Ohio was the kind of racing you want to see: strong classes, tightly-grouped times between the cars and drag races that were either won at the tree at the very end…it didn’t matter which class you were watching, none of the drivers really pussyfooted around…though, we are willing to bet that if you asked Pro Street driver Mike Barran, he might tell you that he could’ve used a touch less action than he saw on Friday night. During the second round of qualifications, Barran squared his 1985 Chevrolet Camaro off against Gary Cygan’s 1970 Pontiac GTO. From the launch, the Camaro was moving like a rocket was strapped to it’s back…then, as we followed the car down the track, the Camaro’s nose made a move for the heavens and the whole damn car took flight! After a second or two of airspace violation, the Camaro came down roughly and drifted towards the left wall before coming to a stop. Camron Kardules was in the stands and got the whole entire thing!

According to our sources, Barran thinks that the throttle got hung up after the car came down the first time, and that enough air got under the Camaro on the rebound bounce to lift the third-gen hard enough to put it onto the parachute. The car is fixable and Barran was uninjured.
