GM might not like the idea of the Chevrolet Caprice PPV getting into civilian hands, but what were they really going to do about it once police units started to sell them out of the fleet? It was the car that we craved after the Pontiac G8 was unceremoniously binned during GM’s circumnavigation of the great big toilet bowl of 2008, and we were told that no, you can’t buy it, only the boys in blue can. Well, after plenty of miles, they are starting to filter out into the regular world, and if you have your Ps and Qs in order and the money to throw down at an auction, you too can have one of these blunt force trauma stompers. And just in case you wondered just what fun an ex-cop car could be, how about this beast: minimal mods, plenty of laughing gas, and a spare set of drag tires equals one hell of a ball with a four-door sled that will still cause traffic to panic en masse when you roll up on them. That qualifies as a win-win in our book!
Nice looking 9C1…were those times recorded on a 1/4 mile track? I thought I saw a best of 11.7 for the Caprice? IMHO that’s very respectful for a 4 door sedan with 115k police miles on the clock. Set of gears, exhaust and a 150 shot and your going bumper to bumper with a stock Hell Cat for a fraction of the price. Imagine what it might be capable of with a nice cam, tune, intake and head work.
or just buy a new SS .. that isn’t beat to death..
WOW !!!
I used to think Crown Vics were fun …. Damn !!
get in to public hands?? have a look at gumtree.com.au for a statesman…. any number of them available in Australia, pretty cheap and not hacked up like your average cop car….
Hmmm…when a new SS can be had for the same price as a used 9C1 I might just consider one. Call me crazy but personally I would prefer a clean ex cop car to an SS. Utilitarian looks, combined with Cop shocks, brakes, and exhaust…perhaps the Blues Brthers had it right all along.
Thanks for the Auzie site, a Statesmen would be cool…but importing one might prove more expensive than giving a southern 9C1 some TLC.
