OK, that photo might be a bit misleading; you don’t get to live in the Tekno Autosports McLaren 650S GT3 car during Shane Van Gisbergen’s record-setting lap, but the arrow points to a house adjacent to Australia’s Mount Panorama Circuit—home to the Bathurst 1000 and Bathurst 12 Hours races—that is up for sale. The house is a five-bedroom, three-bathroom with a pool and 10 acres attached, but the only thing that matters is that the address is 505 Conrod Straight. In other words, this house sits adjacent to the fastest section of road racing in all of Australia.
From the porch, you could watch Australia’s Great Race with the (formerly V8) Supercars heading downhill toward The Chase, a corner taken at nearly 300 kph (~186 mph). Yeah, I’d call that a selling point for the average gearhead. The Mount Panorama Circuit is made up of a public tourist road about 355 days a year and a number of residences have driveways directly off what becomes a racing circuit on those special days.
The property is assessed at $2,700,000 Australian, which comes out to a shade over $2 million in the United States at the current exchange rate. In some parts of the U.S., that kind of money would barely buy you a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom ranch let alone 10 acres next to a world-famous racetrack.
If you’re curious about the New South Wales climate, the average high in the summer months (December through February) is in the low 80s (Fahrenheit) and the average low in the winter is in the high 30s (again, in Fahrenheit). Seems like something I could live with. Let me see if I can dig up some couch change for that down payment.
Here’s an aerial view shot by Hagney Sky High Aerial Footagefor the real estate company with the listing.
The guy that currently owns this used to rent it out for Bathurst 1000 week-I have had the pleasure of staying there once.ITS FUCKING AWESOME!!
Unique feature-you can sit on the can and watch the cars coming down Conrod Straight!!!
Must be pretty close to where the late great Denny Hulme parked his BMW up for the last time…..
