UPDATE: First to 250 mph: Aeromotive Mustang Breaks NMCA Speed Record at Indy

UPDATE: First to 250 mph: Aeromotive Mustang Breaks NMCA Speed Record at Indy

The 250 mph barrier has been broken in NMCA competition, and our boys at Aeromotive were the guys who pulled it off. Breaking the previous speed record by more than 16 mph, they didn’t just break the record, they crushed it. Driver, and Aeromotive President, Steve Matusek wheeled Aeromotive’s Roush Yates Pro Stock powered Mustang to a 6.11 second pass at 250.41 mph to become the fastest man in NMCA history, and couldn’t be happier. When he sent us a text message last night, we immediately called Larry Larson who has been working feverishly, along with the rest of the team, to get this bad boy dialed in.

During previous tests and events, power has not been their problem. Getting the power to the ground has taken lots of testing and tweaks in the clutch and shock department, but over the last 6 weeks they have done lots of testing and have made some huge strides. When we talked to Larson, who built this car at his Larson Racecars shop in Oak Grove Missouri, he told us that as they chipped away at this beast they decided that tires were an issue. Hoosier has been the tire of choice for team Aeromotive, and Larson as well, and they had no intention of changing. But when they tried another tire from Hoosier, the changes were significant and almost instant. This weekend’s performance in Indy promises to be the tip of the iceberg, and 5 second runs are next on the list.

Congratulations to the Aeromotive Team on this amazing performance. It is well deserved, and shows just how good this new Ford Pro Stock program really is. With a set of Pro Mod 88 Turbos on board, the 503 inch Ford is making more than 3000 horsepower. Plans for the team include running at the ADRL race in Texas later in October, and then the NHRA Big O Tires Nationals in Vegas. We’re pretty sure Steve will also be running the PSCA Street Car Supernationals, which will be live right here at BangShift.com, in November. Look for more Street Car Supernationals announcements later this week.

U.S. Nationals Aeromotive Mustangs Recap

There are a lot of big things going on over at Aeromotive, and we are happy to tell you that some of them are going to debut right here at BangShift.com. But until we pop the cork on those particular bottles of champagne, we figured we would bring you some shots of the Aeromotive Pro Mod car that just ran at Indy this weekend for NHRA’s “Big Go” US Nationals in Indy. The biggest drag race in the world is the place that everyone wants to be, and the Aeromotive crew wasn’t going to miss out on it this year even though their new Roush Yates big inch Ford engine program is in it’s infancy. Aeromotive’s Steve Matusek hit the track in Indy with a vengeance in search of one of the 16 Get Screened America Pro Mod qualifying spots along with Amanda Matusek who was wheeling Aeromotive’s Ford Super Cobra Jet Mustang in Stock Eliminator.

As all the door car guys on site soon found out, the track at Indy wasn’t going to be easy to tame as a lot of the door cars had trouble getting down the track in a straight line. Thanks to Aeromotive’s chassis builder of choice, Larry Larson of Larson Race Cars, the car went straight and true.

With the new Roush Yates Twin Turbocharged 500 cubic inch Pro Stock powerplant under the hood, power is in abundance and the Aeromotive team is working hard to harness all of it and get the car consistently into the high 5 second zone. A 6.43 at 235 was the best for the Mustang, which unfortunately didn’t make the show, but the Aeromotive Team was still happy with the progress they are making. Plus, Amanda Matusek carried the Aeromotive torch and went three rounds in her Super Cobra Jet Mustang Stock Eliminator car. Congrats to all, and good luck on getting that crazy beast into the 5’s.

After watching the runs on saturday i most say very impressive with the whole Aeromotive team. Masterful job guys. I have personal feelings towards your the due to Larry,I recently had Larry and his employees show off their skills on my race car. I recommend Larson Race Cars to anyone needing chassis work.
