Ron, I’m calling you out, buddy. Oh, and Don too. In case you are wondering what’s going on here, dear reader, it seems that two of my friends from Topeka got together and found something that was sure to get my eye twitching. And they found it, alright. I need another project car like I need a hole in the head, but I’ve had a build layout in my mind for decades that involved the most gutted car possible that was still street legal, built up to be the nastiest mother around. Normally, I’ve projected this build onto a Ford Maverick, Mustang II or early Fox body because they are light and small enough to be nimble. But the idea of a stripped down stock car with headlights, taillights and most important, a license plate, has called out to me ever since Lohnes took delivery of one very questionable AMC Javelin.
Here’s the car, a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner. First year of the Beeper, a B-body Chrysler product with tubing, rust and what’s left of a 440 under the hood. Somewhere between the rust livery and the wagon-spoke wheels sits what could be a monster in the right hands. There is work ahead of whomever is courageous enough to take it on. but we have faith in you. And I say that because there is no way that this Runner is making it to my house. I don’t care that I’ve got a 400 block that could put that 440 crank to good use. I don’t care that I could reasonably get this thing registered so long as there is a VIN tag on the car. I don’t care that every NASCAR junkie in a five hundred mile radius would be green with envy. And I don’t care that even as it sits, this Runner is at least twice as valuable as my Imperial is when it’s running and driving.
Are you seeing what I’m seeing? It’ll take three thousand bucks to own the Plymouth. Lord knows how much more on top of that it’ll take to get it going, but you know what you’re getting into, cowboy.
I know nothing.LOL
Hook. Line. Sinker.
Ditto.Bet hes looking for a place to stash it.LOL
Heck with putting it back on the street…vintage short Track, with period correct engine, and stance…now that would make my heart sing.
Must have always been at the back of the pack. Pretty straight for a track car. I can just hear my wife when that arrives.
Even comes with a parts car, I’m so happy it’s on the wrong coast!
No title , that keeps me out of trouble . Cause if I own it it is going to have to be streetable. Even if it has now windows.
Three grand for that piece of crap?
“Runs” Downhill? Anybody see the engine? Maybe I don’t know anything about that kind of intake, but it don’t look like a runner
Put it to use on the vintage stock car circuit.
Bryan – ignore the doubters and follow your heart’s desire!
