Money No Object: This Blown 1982 AMC Spirit Is A Lot Of Temptation In A Tiny Package!

Oh, this is one evil-looking little bastard. There is nothing positive about this car. American Motors might have provided tons of inspired scenes of driving on beautiful roads and extolled the virtues of a small car that could compete with the new Fox Mustang, but the truth was that the Spirit was rehashed leftovers, an AMC staple and was already well outdated when it arrived. No amount of gingerbread was going to fix that image, so why keep the look going? Instead, the builder of this blown 1982 AMC Spirit went somewhere between Mad Max and a pure street brawler and it looks like it wants to fight…and it’ll call you all sorts of names if you don’t. That’s the kind of car we dig.

1982 Amc spirit with a supercharged Chevy 355 dart block pushing around 650 hp and 550 torque. Turbo 400 trans. Both engine and trans bought from Al’s toy box in Connecticut. Have Dyno paperwork for engine. Ford 9 inch rear with 4:10’s. Line lock. Driveshaft loop. Front and rear adjustable shocks and springs. Custom rims 20×13.5 rear and 20×11.5 front. See pictures for tire sizes. Tires and rims brand new. Disc brakes all around. All new gauges in dash. Has nitrous but just needs to be connected. 3.5 inch exhaust pipes from the headers back. Fiberglass hood and hatch. Car has never really been driven. Has maybe 5-10 miles on it. Almost everything brand new in this car. Real nice and fast car. Can be used for street or strip.

The car has only been driven maybe ten miles, ever? Oh, that won’t do. Hook up the nitrous, fill up the fuel cell and get your courage in check. It’s time to go test your strength, your commitment, and your bowel control. Don’t be scared…like everything else that makes you both nervous and excited at the same time, once you get over the initial shock, nothing else will do it for you.

    I’d be interested; if it were just a roller….wtf is it with people and Chevy engines? “I’m going to build a hot rod that is uniquely my own, and use the same engine everyone else is using, so I can be different, just like them.”

    Also WTF do people think putting on big ass ugly donk wheels will make the car soothing to the eyes?

    Get rid of the wheels and throw in a 401 backed by a 6M!

  3. YOU\'LL HURT ITS FEELINGS

    It\’s like a Mad Max wannabe thing.
    It will never grow up to be a Mad Max anything.

    Wheels = Ridiculous
    Blower through the bonnet of a car that size = NO!
    Auto Trans = Pass me the pipe while i sit in rocking chair and fall asleep

    Mad Max would destroy this Chevy powered pile of shit with his bare hands before stealing his lunch at Thunderdome!

      Since 90% of all cars featured on BS are “piles of shit”, why don’t you show the world your car, it must be one hell of a Leyland Princess (or whatever garbage you call classic cars on that island of yours).

    Why are all the commentators so whinny? Post your last time-slip or STFU about how this guys build isn’t original/fast/cool.

    Where are the pictures (that are mentioned) that give the wheel size? I have owned an AMC Spirit continuously since 1980. A SBC is lighter, has more options for the canvass and cheaper to build. That said, I am building a V8 AMC for my car. In my mind, cross builds add variety and increase the popularity of our cars. I personally am tired of looking at 15 inch BFG T/As on muscle and pony cars. I would change several things if this were my own car, but I applaud his artistry and execution of his plan. Thanks for preserving an AMC and making it something special.
