You can always tell when there is an event at the National Corvette Museum…there’s a lot of fiberglass roaming the streets of Bowling Green for days before and after. The plates can be from near or far, but they’re out there…Corvette enthusiasts swarm western Kentucky like bees swarm around the hive. Seeing one or two cars out and about isn’t out of the ordinary, but as I was exiting off of the Interstate towards NCM Motorsports Park, I couldn’t help but feel out of place in the Mustang. As I passed by the Museum’s parking lots, it was clear that I had somehow missed an event on the calendar: the Michelin NCM Bash. This is the kickoff event for the National Corvette Museum’s outdoors season, and they couldn’t have picked a better day to do it…clear, warm without being roasting hot, and a nice breeze made for picture-perfect conditions for the fans that rolled in to see the new 2019 Corvette ZR1 and Stingray, hear information from engineers and designers that came from both Bowling Green Assembly and the Warren Tech Center, and generally nose around the joint seeing all sorts of cool cars, ranging from a fleet of late-models to the restored beauties that graced the parking lots. Admittedly, most of the cars were C5 and newer, but there were a few classics hidden (as well as a Viper that was blending in surprisingly well, all things considered.)
The National Corvette Museum and NCM Motorsports Park will have events going on all summer long, so be sure to check out their schedules and see what sounds good to you! Take in some sights and sounds, or hit the road course and hear the siren’s song of racing machines, all within a two-minute drive from each other!
