Unveiled: 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Well, It’s Here, A Camaro-Like Crossover…

It’s right there, and I can’t un-see the resemblance, no matter how hard I try. Yes, I complained about the interior room of the sixth-gen Camaro every single, solitary time I drove one…even in convertible form. Well, apparently I got my answer. What you are looking at is a crossover that has been in the works for a bit and other than a couple of well-camoflauged spy shots, has flown under the radar: the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Unlike other manufacturers who are jumping out of the “car” pool as if there was a shark dropped in, GM as a whole has committed to sticking to their guns with cars. Except the Blazer, which seems to be a hedged bet just in case Ford might be on to something. Normally, a crossover SUV isn’t enough to wake us up…that’s basic daily-driver fodder, nothing more…but look over the Blazer front, rear, and inside, and tell me you don’t see Camaro styling freaking everywhere. That dashboard setup is so close to the Camaro’s that I’m willing to check part numbers to see if they match!

Here’s the rundown on what you care about: the Blazer is on the C1XX platform, shared with the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse and the Cadillac XT5. Two engines, a 2.5L inline four rated at 193 horsepower and 188 ft/lbs of torque, and the 3.6L V6, rated at 305 horsepower and 269 ft/lbs of torque. Both get the nine-speed automatic, both get stop/start technology. The front wheels drive for two-wheel-drive models while a twin-clutch all-wheel-drive unit is available. With the V6, you can tow around 4,500 pounds, and being a brand-new vehicle, can be loaded to the max with all of the infotainment and excess options your heart desires. There will be three packages: base, the sport-themed RS and the top-level Premier.

Pricing will be announced closer to production, with units expected to hit dealerships in early 2019. Our dare to Chevrolet: LT V8 or the LF3 twin-turbo V6 and all-wheel-drive. You made it look like a Camaro, now make it act like one.

Why does everything have to be front wheel drive? It looks like a Jeep Compass or Cherokee or whatever with a Camaro grill. Why not go to Blazer roots and make a Colorado based truck?

Just another reason I will never again but a new car, truck, or suv. They all look the same these days.

A true-to-its-roots Blazer that was based on a Silverado would be a hoot. Make it available in a 2 door and I’d be at a dealer putting my name on the list for one!

Looks like another Santa Fe/Honda/Explorer/Toyota/Mitsubishi/and a dozen more. Who cares?!!

I’m with Scott – Dare to be different and build something we don’t already have.

Soulless and fugly are two words too kind for that thing. It should have been crushed when it was still clay. They still do that, right?
