Street Car Super Nationals V Gallery: Pro Mods, To The Lanes! Friday’s Qualifier For The 37 Big Hitters!

Keith Haney and those that help put the Mid-West Pro Mod series together have to be over the moon with the showing that went down in St. Louis this weekend. Thirty-seven big-tire monsters showed up to do battle at Street Car Super Nationals V, and we mean battle! There were plenty of “usual suspects”, like Haney’s own “Notorious” Camaro with him at the wheel (no small feat, considering his foot-mauling on Thursday), Brandon Pesz’s C1 Corvette, John Stouffer and the ‘Cuda and others, but there were a fleet of relatively new faces that came out to play, too. Jim Bell came down from Alberta with his 1968 Camaro, Judd Coffman rolled in a 1968 Shelby Mustang and Dave Hekhuis brought out a beauty of a 1970 Chevelle SS for the crowd to cheer on. With the 16-car bump at a 3.78, the lowest in MWPM history, it was Jason Hamstra and his 1969 Camaro that ripped off a record-setting [email protected] MPH run to claim top billing. Jeff Rudolf’s wicked 215 MPH top-end speed was equally jaw-dropping…was it the cooler weather that was helping the racers out or was the track that damn good? The answer seemed to be both! In fact, the only car that seemed to be having genuine issues during qualifying was Josh Vettel in the purple Plymouth ‘Cuda. The car ran hard, but the engine was not even close to happy, with the driver’s side bullhorn bellowing smoke like a diesel.

With the sixteen-car Pro Mod field sorted and the second-chance Slammer class now open for business, the question was simple: what would happen come Saturday’s eliminations? We excitedly looked forward to that. But for now, we bring you Friday night qualifications trackside.
