Cheap Racing LUV: The Deadline Is Looming And The LUV Needs To Be Put Back Together!

I’ll admit, I’ve been a bit busy lately playing with low-buck cars of my own and had forgotten to check in on the progress that the Broke Bastard Garage has been making with their small-block Chevrolet LUV swap. With the $3K Hooptie Challenge looming on the calendar, the 327/five-speed Chevy has to be ready to rock at Tucson Dragway for the event that takes place January 18-19, 2019. That means that they’ve got a little over a week to finish up everything they need to transform what was a basic little mini truck into a roadtrip-ready bit of powder-blue violence that can soak up the miles and still put a hurting on anyone who lines up next to them on the line. And live…surviving the Hooptie Challenge in both the automotive and human senses would be good too, we guess. With a week left to go, the focus is on the rebuilding phase: metalwork for the interior, reattaching the front sheetmetal and supports that got cut out to fit the engine, and other small details that need to be addressed before it’s time to throw the bags of clothes in the bed of the truck and head towards the desert!

Riddle me this this fellow viewers: If he used an electric water pump, wouldn’t he be able to set the radiator back further & use a ‘pusher’ type electric fan? Do electric water pumps, like a Moroso, work in a street driven vehicle?
