Dylan McCool has a date with destiny in a couple weeks. That’s his self-imposed mark to have the 1973 Dodge Challenger project build/revival that he’s been working on running and driving, in time to haul to the Holley MoParty in Bowling Green, Kentucky. That event starts on September 18th, 2020…which means that our buddy has eighteen days to get his rear in gear and wrap up the final bits to this E-body that he has been busting his hump on since he first drug it out of the grave where it’d been since about the time Carter was leaving the Oval Office. The work that has been put into the Challenger has been top-rate and we’re excited to see the car in person. But there’s still quite a ways to go before he points the nose northward on Interstate 65 towards BangShift Mid-West territory, so let’s check out the latest update.
Last time, the Jeep-sourced 5.7L Hemi was having some fitment issues in the engine bay. Those will be dealt with. The transmission will go in, and then we get down to everybody’s favorite part of a project: the rainbow spaghetti that is wiring up a car. Modern engine, meet 1973 tech? Nah…Dylan has opted instead to start from scratch, and to not use the often questionable 1970s Chrysler wiring. Smart man. Holley will take care of the underhood work while Painless will take care of the rest of the car. Last update before it runs…we all hope.
Keep pushing, man, I want to see this car at Beech Bend!
