Do you have a perfect layout for a certain model of car? For example: how many of you think that every 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am must be wearing the Y82 black paint with gold trim and, of course, one very pissed off screaming chicken on the hood? I’m guilty. Every 1970s Dodge Ramcharger needs to be black with all of the chrome dressings intact, on 35″ tires with Auto Drag-style wheels. Every Ford Maverick should have been pale yellow, light blue or whatever the hell “Anti-Establish-Mint” was supposed to be with dog-dish caps. 1969 GTOs don’t quite look right in anything other than Carousel Red, rubber-snouted Z28 Camaros need to be black with the red/orange graphics and the turbine wheels, and Plymouth ‘Cudas need to be B5 Blue with black tail panels.

I don’t know why I always picture a 1970 Olds Cutlass in this eye-nuking Sebring Yellow color with the black stripes. It was a favorite color for Olds executives, since the shade was also applied monochromatically onto the Rallye 350 Cutlass, the junior supercar form of Oldsmobile’s A-body. Nothing against a Rocket 350 that can run, that’s a good way to go. But when you put it up against a full-fat 455 W-30 Olds with the red inner fenders…well, there isn’t a comparison, is there? 370 horsepower and enough torque to put fear into just about anything rolling, That W27 aluminum axle carrier is a rare piece to find, full stop. And that dual-snorkel hood might be one of the most tasteful to come out of Detroit at the height of madness.

Sweet 442 (not a fan of yellow anything), just about everything looks great in black (bitch to keep clean), like white on a lot of cars (my MGB), and anything I’ve ever paid to be painted has been a dark Emerald Green semi metallic, the exception is gonna be the MGBs next paint job (unsure of what it will be)
If you wanted your 70 4-4-2 W-30 with a 4-speed, you couldn’t get power brakes for the mandatory front discs, insufficient vacuum with the 230° duration cam. I hope you had a Popeye left leg!
