Farmer Digs: Reviving An Old Farmall Tractor To Plant Some Corn

Farmer Digs: Reviving An Old Farmall Tractor To Plant Some Corn

The image is pure Americana: in an expansive field, a farmer rides a tractor as they prepare the soil for planting in Spring. You can tell the tractor by the color: the greens of John Deeres and Olivers, the blue Fords, the red Farmall tractor and orange Allis-Chalmers and Minneapolis-Molines. From sunrise to past sunset, they would go row by row, working the ground until the seed was sewn and it was time to focus their energy elsewhere on the farm. While farming of that nature is pretty much all but gone, with tractors now the size of 1930s starter homes, GPS coordination, and enough technological interface that it’s a wonder why the farmer bothers to haul their ass out of bed anymore, there are still those who like the idea of doing it the proven way, the proper way. And there’s something about an old farm tractor that is just too bitchin’ for words.

Junkyard Digs’ Kevin has recently moved onto a plot of land with some acreage and has decided that he wants to be a farmer of sorts by growing hisself some corn. Nothing against that…farming has the ability to be a relaxing hobby if you look at it like that. But he’s also decided that he wants to become a farmer in the same manner that he became a successful YouTuber – by finding derelict machines and praying that they will come back to life. Luckily for him, most farm implements that have an engine on board have all the complexity of a sledgehammer striking an anvil. Unfortunately, that same positive also works as a negative. So while the engine might come around fairly well, there’s no assurance that the gearbox isn’t completely frozen, or that the fuel tank doesn’t look like Capt. E.J. Smith’s bathtub right this second (and if you get that reference, pat yourself on the back!) And if those huge rear tires don’t hold air? That’ll make for a long day.

Junkyard Digs is gonna farm…E-I-E-I-O…with a half-dead tractor and some worn-out Ford…E-I-E-I-O…
