Chad’s been to the Pomona swap meet numerous times. He can tell you all about what goes on, what’s for sale, and the quality of what you can find if you take the time to wake up early enough to get there, and if you’re willing to put on your good walking shoes and spend a few hours checking out row after row of good stuff. Me, I have never been to the L.A. County Fairgrounds, have never seen Pomona and have never been to this mythical swap meet. I’ve just done as you all have done: scrolled through the pictures, making sure to keep a drool rag over the keyboard, so that I don’t short it out when something I desperately want but could never afford to get shows up on the screen in front of me.
What has always gotten me about the swap meet is the scope of what you can find. There is no specific genre or category to it…if it’s auto-related there’s a good chance you’ll find it there. You want a period-correct 1970s-style Nova? It’s there. Hunting down date-coded carburetors for your Six Pack setup? There’s a decent chance you’ll find them, or at least find someone who can tell you a better place to look. This isn’t Mecca to gearheads, but it is like shopping at the mall to one!
