Recently, Marty and Moog, the duo that make up Mighty Car Mods, decided to take a look at a late-model Volkswagen Golf R in an interesting light: could they make the Volkswagen hatchback run elevens in the quarter and run a 3-second 0-62 sprint? If you are interested in the theory and the parts used, you can CLICK HERE to check out the first of the build videos, but for the sake of brevity, they achieved their goals. The refrigerator-white Golf is no joke, a solid low-11 second runner that can, when it’s happy, run a sub-3.0 second run up to highway speeds. That’s badass on it’s own, and puts the Golf into some rarified air. A normal Golf R is a sporty little hatch, but with the numbers that MCM is cranking, they are able to whip up on many, many cars that otherwise would’ve eaten it’s lunch.
To prove a point, the boys are at Sydney Dragway with a collection of cars that are hell-bent on ending the high the guys are on. The competition has a pretty good range: a stock Audi , a Kia Stinger GT, a BMW M5, a Nissan GT-R, two of MCM’s other project cars (a Mitsubishi Evo and the “Super Gramps” Subaru Liberty), and just because the Golf isn’t already under pressure, an Audi R8 V10 and a Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Each of the competitors offers something for the Golf, but the question stands: who wins, who loses? Time to start lining cars up against one very angry little hatchback and see what’s what!
