UPDATE: Check out our boy Todd Paton! He runs 3.935 at 310.34 mph in Epping to start off his weekend pretty damn good and then starts the rain delayed eliminations with an upset win over Brittany Force who couldn’t get the tires back under her. Congrats to our boy Todd! Here is his timeslip from the third round of qualifying where he had his career best ET and Speed.
We’ve all got at least one of those friends that treats themselves like a human punching bag for everyone else’s entertainment. Todd Paton is that guy. It’s hard to get a good dig in with him, because he’ll usually beat you to the punch. And he’s goofy as hell. Which is why everyone loves him. And I mean everyone. Fans, co-workers, us. He’s approachable and fun, not to mention one of the foremost experts on Racepak systems since that’s his day job. He’s trusted with some of the most secret information you can find at a race track, and helps teams make the most of the data and systems they have available to them.
But he also drives. He’s been the driver of the Crusher Camaro for the past few years in the NHRA Heritage Series events like the March Meet and he’s driven a lot of other fuel cars over the years. But this weekend, in Epping at the New England Nationals, Todd will be back behind the wheel of the Paton Racing Top Fuel Dragster. It’s the big show, and this race in particular has got some great family history that makes it special for Todd and the gang.
We hope he’s the spoiler and goes out there and kicks everyone’s asses at Epping!
Paton Revved Up for Epping
This weekend’s New England Nationals in Epping, New Hampshire marks Todd Paton’s first Top Fuel event of the 2016 NHRA season. The Operations and Customer Support Manager at Racepak doesn’t get a chance to get behind the wheel of his family’s 10,000 horsepower car as often as he would like. “Between working at the shop in Orange County and traveling to events to provide on-site support, there’s been very little time to concentrate on the race team,” Paton confessed.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend, though. I really enjoy coming back to New England Dragway,” said Paton. “For years my family would come to this track in the summer. My father ran Competition Eliminator and Top Alcohol Funny Car here when we ran in Division 1, so he and my mother would take me and my brother Tony on our summer vacation to the New England area. It’s great to come back here and follow in his footsteps with our Top Fuel car.”
The Paton Racing Top Fuel Dragster made its 2016 debut at the NHRA Gatornationals with Ike Maier behind the wheel. The team turned in consistent low 3.9-second performances at 300 mph to qualify for the show and lost a narrow first-round match to Clay Millican. Prior to the event, the team did some testing at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, GA with Todd behind the wheel.
“It felt good to make a couple of launches with the car back in March,” said Todd. “It gave us an opportunity to try out some new parts and gave me a chance to get back in the seat of our Top Fuel car after nearly 6 months away.”
Qualifying for the New England Nationals begins on Friday afternoon and concludes Saturday, and will be televised live on Fox Sports (FS1) 2:30-3:30 PM ET Saturday. Eliminations are scheduled for 11 AM Sunday morning, and Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the elimination rounds from 4:00-7:00 PM. Check your local listings for Fox Sports 1 on your cable or satellite provider.

There are very few cars in the world that can hit even 60mph in 3.935 seconds let alone 310.54mph – that is why drag racing is the best motor sport ever invented and long may it continue!
