Sometimes things just go right, even when they appear to be going oh so wrong. Such is the case of this big tire Opel at the SCSN 2016 in Las Vegas. It lined up in the left lane, with a Plymouth Duster in the right, and both cars left the starting line fairly calmly although the Opel did a little hop and nod toward the left retaining wall. If we had to guess, it needs some 4 link adjustment, but it was leaving at relatively low rpm and even the move to the left wasn’t anything crazy. But it stayed pointing left and got closer and closer to the wall. And the driver kept trying to pull it to the right until it finally went right. Way right. Across the track in front of the Duster.
We don’t know if the driver of the Duster thought “I’m going to stay in it so that I can motor on past all this mess” or not, but that’s what happened. And it’s amazing nothing worse really happened, as the Opel crossed the centerline in front of the Duster and proceeded to hit, and climb, the right side retaining wall. It then flipped up on the drivers door and slid/spun until it went back on it’s wheels and slid to a stop. Without hitting anything else. It was crazy.
And it wasn’t the only one like it Thursday!
Here is the entire photo sequence.

Hate to see a cool car crumpled…
Keep in mind;
The name OPEL is in the middle of the word hOPELess
