Every drag race fan, hot rodder, and racer loved the Mooneyes Funny Cars that were run by “Big” Jim Dunn. When I collected Die Cast Drag Cars, it was one of my first purchases. Well now it’s coming back folks, and with one of our most famous BangShifters on board! Jeff Arend has been driving the Grime Boss Funny Car for the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Season, but now the new Mooneyes look is going to be an exciting change. We’re excited and we know that fans will be too. It’s this kind of promotion, with special bodies, and all the fanfair, that make the sport even more exciting. We’ll be rooting for Jim Dunn Racing, join us!
JIM DUNN RACING/GRIME BOSS RUNNING MOONEYES TRIBUTE CAR AT POMONA
It’s a partnership that goes back to the beginnings of NHRA: Jim Dunn Racing and Mooneyes. Coming up at the 2013 NHRA Finals in Pomona, Jim Dunn Racing will run a specially designed Funny Car body, paying tribute to this legendary combination.
“It’s great that we can do this at Mooneyes home track in Pomona,” says Jon Dunn, business manager for Jim Dunn Racing. “My dad has always maintained that as long as he is racing – his car will have the Mooneyes logo on it.”
Guests of Mooneyes will also have a front row seat to all the action in the Jim Dunn Racing pit with a hospitality area sponsored by longtime supporters, Murray Company and Koppl.
The Mooneyes logo is one of the most recognized in racing. The popular speed shop began in the 1950’s by Dean Moon in the garage of his parent’s café and continues to be a power house in motorsports today. In addition to the presence on the Jim Dunn Funny Car, Mooneyes will also have their merchandise trailer on the midway to sell their popular products to fans.
Jim Dunn Racing’s primary sponsor, Grime Boss, will take an associate role this race and will also be selling all their popular heavy duty cleaning wipes on Nitro Alley at a discounted rate for NHRA fans.
Jim Dunn Racing Driver, Jeff Arend, will be at the La Verne Fanfest on Saturday, November 2nd in Old Town La Verne, leading up to the 2013 NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona beginning on Thursday, November 7th. He will also be signing autographs on November 8th in the Top Eliminator Club.
