This 1973 V8 Vega Wagon Is An Epic Example Of 1970s Perfection

To say that this V8 Vega Wagon turns my crank would be an understatement to say the least. The color combo just screams mid 1970s which is just fine with me. Ten years ago I would have puked if you told me I would like a green interior in a yellow car, but man it does it for me now. This car has a completely new interior, only 80,000 miles, and has a nice little 350 with a Weiand Intake and Holley carb. Shorty headers, and good parts makes it a clean fit and a nice sanitary daily driver that still is a fun hot rod. It has a Monza disc brake conversion, mostly new suspension, and a brand new TH350 with a converter. We imagine that even with 2.73 gears this thing is a riot. I can’t even imagine owning a car with a 2 series ring and pinion, but since these are so light it might be just right. If it were mine though I have a feeling it would get more tire and at least a 3.31 gear, if not more.

$17,500 is a little “bigly”…or is that with the 10% Chad premium. The yellow and GREEN interior really sets it off. 🙁

I see a Vega and I want to paint it black
Yellow and green should not be on one car
I see this car got ordered while high
I shake my head until the sickness goes

    My apologies to the Stones.

to Matt Cramer: that explains everything. l had a basically stock 70 lmpala w a 454 & 2:73 posi @ 4400lbs – it would smoke both tires (255/65/15) til you let off the gas. I see same thing with this Vega – at less than 1/2 the weight & probably similar hp – this thing would be a riot!

Built a 73 Vega GT wagon back in the day. 327 Saginaw 4 speed. Monza posi rear. Was my daily driver for 2 years. Lots of good memories.

Pretty cool car, but with that color combo the seller should concentrate his ads in the Oakland area…

Simple – spray it gloss black!

    But keep that beautiful interior.

By the way I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a Vega wagon. I think GM should have offered Vauxhall badged RHD Vegas for sale in the UK as they were better than anything they made. Especially the Cosworth Vega that only needed the engine’s reliabilty issues sorted. This would have been a potent rally car and could have even challenged Ford’s all conquering Escorts – and that’s saying something coming from a life long Ford fan!

In the late 70’s I had a chance to buy a pretty clean 72 Vega with a 283 with a glide for $650. I passed since I had a warmed over 72 bug that ran pretty good and didn’t have a pllace to keep a second car. A few weeks later the float stuck in the bug and burned the car. I went to look at the Vega, it had just been sold.

I like it but not sure I believe that this colour combo is original. The green interior would look great with a matching green exterior.

Wow, Geordie in a giving mood today! If you like this, search “Vega panel wagon”

Had a yellow Pontiac Astre\’ wagon body almost exactly like this given to me back in the \’80\’s. It had a Monza rearend, black velour interior and rallye gauges. I had a warmer-than-stock 400 small block with a kitted turbo 350 that fit perfectly in the engine bay. Perfect sleeper except for the 2-1/2\” exhaust pipe. Traded it off a few years later for something with air conditioning. It was fun while it lasted!

Cool car. I\’d leave it as is.

A long time ago, I remember riding around in a Vega wagon with a 350 2bbl / 350 TH and stock rear end. It was absolutely as quick as the usual suspect Chevelles, Camaros, and the like in town.

Now that middle aged guys with a lot of money (and the need to own a dozen nearly identical cars) have ruined the muscle car hobby that I was part of for all these years, I\’m really starting to want one of these or preferably a Monza.

factory sized tires are so short, 2.73 probably feels more like a mid 3 gear.. Dunno what size those 14’s are, but theyre probably still relatively short.
