This is just one of three Minitrucks that we’ll be drooling over this Monday morning. We’ve decided that we’ll pick three from Craigslist, and spotlight it for one of three uses, either drag racing, autocross, or off-road. Each of them will be featured in their respective BANGshift subsites, 1320, APEX, and XL. This one is slated for the street and drag strip, and we’ll tell you why. First off, it’s a super clean example of the famed Datsun 620 pickup. Sure it needs seats, or needs them redone, and we’d get rid of the rear flares in about 20 seconds, but overall this thing is great. It runs, drives, and needs just a few things to be a driver. With that said, we’d get rid of all of that. This thing would get a 2.3 Ford with a Turbo on it, or an LS engine with a turbo on it, and we think the 2.3 would be the coolest. We’d lower it, and use cage and chassis components from Chris Alston’s Chassisworks to put a set of Weld Wheels and Mickey Thompson drag radials under the back.

Think about it. Say 700 horsepower, which is stupid drivable on the 2.3 Turbo combo, an overdrive trans, air conditioning, and comfy seats and stereo. This thing wouldn’t weight anything, and the King Cab is just enough extra room to make stereo and road trip comfort a reality along with the ability to carry just what you need up front and put the rest out back under a tonneau cover. We’d stick an Aeromotive tank, complete with Dual Phantom, under the bed out back with a custom filler to the bed side. Don’t you think it’s a genius plan? We do too. Now someone buy this thing and build it!
