This Gasser Is Not Just For Show! Run 11’s Out Of The Box And Have Straight Axle Fun Right Now!

I dig early 1950’s Chevy’s, whether they are gassers, lowriders, customs, or just cruisers doesn’t matter, but this particular 1953 Chevy Gasser is pretty darn cool. It’s got a couple things I would change, like some of the engine dress-up items and the front seats, but it is most certainly ready for fun! It’s got a 406 small block Chevrolet under the hood that has been dynoed at 540 hp and it runs high 11’s, in drive, with mufflers. I am pretty sure that with a few tweaks that 540 horsepower could be put to good use for running at least a half second quicker, maybe more. With the info the seller has provided on the engine, I believe the numbers. And if you want this thing to have an even more nose high stance it’s as easy as swapping out the front axle for one with no drop in it. This would be cool with old school graphics down the side calling it THE BANGSHIFTER. Of course it will need a 4-speed then, but we have that technology.

Here is the info from the seller:

This is a super cool 53 Chevrolet gasser. I bought it to get back into drag racing after about 45 years. I have the time slips to prove it runs consistent high 11s in the quarter mile. With the trans in drive and mufflers on!! Just punch it and go fast. Body is very nice. Paint is very nice. Chrome and stainless trim is all excellent. I do have the center section of the grille but no front bumper. The glass is all good except both door glasses are cracked. Interior is super nice. Headliner not installed, but I have a new one in the box that goes with it. Headlights, tail lights, dash lights, and brake lights work. No turn signals. No horn. Gauges all work. Tach works.

Mechanically: Engine is a built 406 small block that pumps out 542.5 HP and 541.8 Ft Lbs of torque, and I have the dino sheet to prove it. It is a full roller engine. XR 292 cam  583/589 lift 254/260 duration. 850 CFM Proform Carb. Edelbrack Victor JR intake. Ported after market cast iron heads 64 CC 200 C. MSD Ignition. 4000 stall converter. Pro built 350 Turbo. Dana 60 rear end with brand new Strange axles. 4:88 track lock with ladder bars. B&M pro stick shifter. Fast Shaft racing drive shaft. Drop tube straight axle. Vega steering box. 4 Wheel disc brakes. Line lock.  Custom 3″ exhaust. MT – ET Street 30-12.50×15 slicks. DOT rated for street use. New Rocket racing wheels. The thing on the bottom of the engine is an engine diaper to catch any oil and parts should the engine decide to go South.

I have had this car to various tracks many times. It leaves very hard ( pulls the front tires ), goes straight, and stops straight. The last time I took it to the Meltdown drags, I broke an axle. That’s how hard it hooks up. Does great burn outs.

The only this car needs is a small crack in one header welded up and a new owner.

I just bought a Blown 41 Willys gasser and I am building a 49 chevy gasser with a big block Olds. Two gassers is enough so this one should go.

It has been old reliable for several years and a very fun car. We all take turns driving it. I just got the bug to move up in the gasser world.
