Mach III Motorsports and second generation owner/driver Will Martin has just announced that Aeromotive Inc. signed on as a major sponsor of The Amazing Speed Racer ’79 Dodge Onmi nitro funny car.

Will Martin

“When I took over the fuel system decisions on our car in the summer of 2014, I set out on a quest to create the most efficient fuel system in nostalgia drag racing. I looked at fittings and hoses and chose Phenix Industries. Those changes showed huge improvements in testing with no engine damage at all. Now, taking that data and using it to make more improvements for 2015 we have chosen the new Aeromotive Terminator pump for our fuel delivery needs. Let me tell you the pump curve and data are impressive.” said Will Martin.

The new Terminator pump features a modular design that makes servicing the pump a breeze. The internals were designed to squeeze every drop of fuel with triple hard coated billet gears allowing for more volume to be seen at the barrel valve – while decreasing bypass internally to the pump. This means the pump will speed up faster at the step, stay cooler and be able to produce more volume at higher RPM.

‘It’s all about volume”, said Shane McWilliams, crew chief of the Speed Racer nitro funny car. “Growing up, my father’s best friend was Pete Jackson so I have seen a thing or two over the years about fuel systems and rule #1 was never confuse the fuel. This starts at the pump.”

“People want to call these cars Nostalgic and I respect that. However we have changed every other component on these cars except for the fuel systems. We no longer run cast blocks, heads or stock GMC blowers. The fuel systems still resemble what was originally run in the 1960’s, however today’s needs have evolved and the revolution has begun. We run purpose built components and let’s face it, more times than not, the blower runs away from the fuel pump. Fuel pumps are limited in size to help keep performance down, our thought is to improve the fuel system deficiencies and the new Aeromotive Terminator pump is a big piece to that puzzle.”

Aeromotive’s Vic Wood said of the new program, “We are thrilled to have a test program with Mach III Motorsports – I have watched them in the pits for a few years now and they go about things in the right way.  Will presents his cars in a very professional manner and always runs hard.”  Bub Miller, Aeromotive’s Director of Motorsports will work closely with constant improvements to the pump as well as other new product development.  The new partnership between Aeromotive Inc. and Mach III Motorsports will see the new Terminator fuel pump on the Speed Racer Funny Car at the IHRA season opener in Tucson February 6 & 7.
