Carbon fiber race parts are not cheap! We all wish they weren’t, but they are, but if you see just how they go together you’ll understand why. Fiberglass race parts take a lot of work to make, and this is a completely different animal. No chop gun, no hand lay it and forget it, instead this stuff requires pressure, heat, and a steady hand along with a bunch of high dollar technical equipment in order to make parts that look perfect, perform as promised, and that fit. Like most things, there is a lot of skill and expertise required as well. Sure you can make something out of carbon fiber without all the skills and equipment, but that isn’t the same as making real deal carbon race parts, It just isn’t.
In this video you’ll go behind the scenes at Tim McAmis Race Cars where Tim himself is giving the tour. This is the first in a series of videos that are going to show you how to fabricate using composites, how they are used in real race cars, and how to use familiar tools when working this thing often unfamiliar materials.
