I know that everyone out there reading this has at some point or another seen a car, truck, or other motor vehicle do impossible, or at least unlikely, things on camera in tv or movies. As car guys and gals, I know we can be more critical but come on. Some of the things they do are just ridiculous. Many others are rather plausible, and some even make you question whether they are possible.
One of the more mundane and common is the good old gate crash. Can a car really ram a chain link fence and drive right through it? Clearly it depends on what the vehicle is, and the gate itself, but they sure do come apart cleanly, if you believe the movie makers.
Video Description:
We tested the Hollywood myth: can you actually smash through a chain-link gate like in the movies? Today we turned a 2010 Chevy Traverse into our own “Generally” and sent it through multiple gates to find out for real.
From Dukes of Hazzard stunts to movie car chases, everyone’s seen a vehicle blast through a chain-link fence like it’s made of tissue paper. But is any of that actually true? We put it to the test. First with the Generally, then with a lawnmower, a four-wheeler, and finally a full dump truck push for maximum impact. This is a real-life car crash test against chain-link, no Hollywood magic, no CGI, no stunt doubles, just raw physics and destruction. If you’ve ever wondered whether a car can really drive through a chain-link gate, how much force it takes, or whether the movies got it completely wrong, this video shows the truth.
We build fences for a living, so we know exactly how strong chain-link gates really are. Today we found out how they hold up against actual vehicles, rising impact levels, and a whole lot of chaos. Stick around for the results, because the ending was wild.
