Freiburger’s Job Is Over! Here’s How He Got Started, Some Advice For Newbies, And A Reminder That He’s Not Dead Yet

Freiburger’s Job Is Over! Here’s How He Got Started, Some Advice For Newbies, And A Reminder That He’s Not Dead Yet

I feel like all the doom and gloom that has come around over the last week or so, following the news that Motortrend was no longer going to produce the shows we all know and love, makes it sound like Freiburger, Finnegan, Newbern, Cotten, Derek, Dulcich, Lucky, and the rest of the gang are somehow dead. It’s like that scene in Monte Python’s Holy Grail where the cart is being pushed through the village and the guy is yelling “Bring out your dead!” and one of the guys who has been put in the cart is saying, “But I’m not dead yet!”

We’re going to see most all of these folks in plenty of cool videos and at plenty of cool events. I have faith. But what if you are  newbie and want to get into the automotive media business? I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years and can tell you that I never planned out how it all went down, or how I would become BANGshift Chad, or how BANGshift would even come to be. It all just sort of happened. But you might want to be a little more deliberate if you are serious about it, because this industry is pretty cool and we’re all pretty lucky.

Video Description:

It’s the end of my 33 years in car magazines and TV shows in December of 2024.

People ask me how to get a job in magazines, hosting TV shows, or working in automotive media. Here is my story sprinkled with some advice. I’ve been the editor of magazines like Hot Rod and Car Craft, and have hosted the TV shows Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, Hot Rod Garage, and Engine Masters. I’m very fortunate that I’ve never had a job that did not involve cars.

You can do the same.

Don’t forget that I’m giving away my 1968 Chevy Camaro project car and accepting entries before December 9, 2024! See the link below to find the rules. You can buy D/F merch for entries or mail in for free.

If you like The David Freiburger Channel, please share!—D/F
