Tulsa Raceway Park’s Nostalgia Nitro Nationals are always one of the crowd favorite events each year, and 2016 was no different. Bad Brad Klassen was on hand shooting photos, enjoying the sun, and getting his fill of Nitro, in search of great photos to share with all of you. Here are the fruits of his labor.
(Photos and words by Bad Brad Klaassen) This year’s edition of TRP’s annual nostalgia nitro race started out a bit soggy as Friday’s activities got cancelled because of persistent thunderstorms, typical Oklahoma weather. However, it didn’t dampen the spirits of racers or fans because an extremely huge day of racing went off on Saturday with beautiful sunshine and racing late into Saturday night. What’s not to love about nighttime nitro flames?
The nitro classes were well represented by nitro funny cars, A/fuel dragsters, the Southwestern Jr Fuelers and the crazy fuel altered action provide by the Central States Superchargers. There was also a big class of gassers to make this nostalgia race complete.
The Dallas, TX, based Blue Max funny car owned and wheeled by Ronny Young pulled of the victory in funny car while in the A/fuel dragster class Tulsa’s own Grand Prix Racing dragster owned by Jon Brook and piloted by John Harless pulled off back to back wins. Ken Singleton from Chickasha, OK, also pulled off back to back victories in his “High Risk” altered competing with the Central States Superchargers Association. Mike Millsap from Sachse, TX, pulled off the win in the Southwestern Jr Fuelers Association. Roger Johns from Tuttle, OK, got lucky in his beautiful green 40’s era Lucky’s Speed Shop Chevy truck winning the Gasser Class.
I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention the annual pinup contest was its usual success as well with lots of very pretty ladies competing for the title of Miss Nitro Nationals with Katie Fitzgerald aka Ms. Katie Belle receiving the sash and crown this year. So, that’s how if went down in T-Town at the 2016 edition of the Nostalgia Nitro Nationals and plenty of nitro was huffed by all. Okay enough words, go check out my shots.
See you at the drags,
-Bad Brad
