Check out this video that Amy and Dave Dayton, of ARS-TV.com, put together interviewing Don Garlits about his Swamp Rat 37 all electric dragster. Garlits and his crew are attempting to run over 200 mph in the 1/4 mile for the first time ever in an electric vehicle. Garlits is arguably as excited about this milestone as he was when he broke the 200 mph for the first time in his conventionally powered dragster decades ago, and has very specifc opinions about drag racing today and into the future. It’s great to see Garlits this driven after all these years as an icon in drag racing, and after the death of his lifelong loving wife Pat just a few months ago.

Agree or disagree about the future of drag racing but you cant question the source. Big Daddy has been at the forefront of drag racing for so many years he has built in credibility! Out of the mouth of history comes the future.
Sorry Don, I just don’t see it. The sound. smell. and sensations of fuel will NEVER be replaced by a battery.
Rocket cars were outlawed, when guys were passing out at the wheel, as I understand it. Fuel is not much further behind. He could very well be right.
Although not opposed to electric racing cars, I’m not feeling this as the future of top fuel. I could see it growing on its own,but not replacing fuel. I do however, totally agree that to be sustainable top fuel will need to change. Something in the direction that F1 has gone. Restricting engines used per year would force reliability and quick turnarounds for sure.
