Coeburn Cash Days: Virginia’s Lonesome Pine Raceway Hasn’t Had A Car Down It In Nearly 50 Years. This Is No Prep!

There’s no prep, where they take a dragstrip and usually scrape some of the track and then never prep it again for the rest of the weekend, and then there is this. This dragstrip hasn’t had rubber or cars on it in nearly 50 years, has a 16 feet grass center divider, bumps that have bumps and then more bumps, lots of grass to run off into, and all kinds of character. This is Lonesome Pine Raceway in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, and this is Coeburn Cash Days.

This race is the result of a group of local racers who want nothing more than to bring racing back to their community, and are doing so at a track long forgotten and abandoned. If you have to prep for a race track by scraping the GRASS off the edge of it then that is some seriously unprepped surface and we love it. Flashlight start, everything looks like small tires, and there are even some stick shift cars racing in this one. Are they the quickest cars in the country? No, but there are still some hauling ass here and they are fun to watch. This is a real no prep race and we dig it.

Wow. I can’t decide if I enjoyed the mullets or the groups of guys helping with the burnouts more. Safety is definitely not on those fellas radar.

I haven’t watched 20 minutes of NHRA drag racing over the past 10 years…but I watched all 20 minutes of this!!! If here is more back story to this, please fill us in.

Dragstrips all over the country are going to their grave, this one jumped out of it’s grave! Not an easy trick to pull off.

Great stuff. See what fun you can have when the lawyers are kept in a box?

Fun sketchy racing, just the way it was supposed to be

Wow- looks like a fun time.
The blue Mustang at the 18:30 is missing a front lugnut but will probably be ok since he still has four.
