As hard as it is to believe, I’ve actually seen the tree get taken out, in person, four times in my life. And each and every time it shocks me. This time I’m watching the video just like you, since I wasn’t there in Brainerd when it went down. With that said, this one is arguably more exciting than most I’ve ever seen as the car spins almost a full 180 degrees before actually contacting the tree. Watching you realize there is literally nothing the driver could do to stop, or predict, that this was going down.
It looks like the left axle breaks, the cars turns right amazingly sharply, and then takes out the tree with the right front fender. At least this poor guy has made sure everyone on the planet knows his car. And, it doesn’t appear that there is much damage to it either, so he can fix the axle and get back to racing.
Watch, it’s amazing.
