Dare To Be Different: Blasting 9-Second Quarter Miles In The Luxury Of A Lexus SC300!

Dare To Be Different: Blasting 9-Second Quarter Miles In The Luxury Of A Lexus SC300!

Daring to be different…it’s a bit of a cliché in the automotive world, but the idea rings true for many regards. Instead of a 1965 Mustang, why not look at a Falcon or Maverick? Instead of a 1971 Chevelle, how about a 1979 Caprice coupe? While some people will pick a different car just to not have the same thing someone else has, there are other reasons for picking different. But sometimes there are even better reasons for ditching the obvious choice for another car. Take the Toyota Supra, for instance: the 2JZ-equipped sport coupe of choice for people who like to row manual transmissions like they are stirring pudding while yelping about family. The engine itself is legendary and thanks to movies like the Fast and Furious franchise, the Supra has become so damned expensive to acquire that it’s not worth the effort. And, in my opinion at least, the last-generation Supra was a bloated freak. But that 2JZ also appeared in the Lexus SC coupe. It had five more horsepower stock and wasn’t structurally different from the Supra body. So, if you built the engine to handle the mythical power levels, made sure you had a transmission that would live behind the boost, and kept the rest looking neat and tidy, you’d have a comfortable personal coupe with plenty of luxury, yet could deliver a swift ass-kicking to any idiot that tested their luck.

And yes, it’s been done. Check out WISE Motorsports’ SC300!
