A lot of drag racing history fans think that when Mercury showed up with tier flip top funny cars in 1966, everyone else followed suit immediately. Those people are wrong. While the 1966 Mercury entries did change the game, there was a period of a couple years where every crazy idea was tried, good or bad.
In this video we look at 7 very different and very distinct funny cars that debuted from 1966 through 1968. These machines defined an era when anything went and the key to making money in drag racing was having a car and an approach different from the guy in the other lane.
Some were great, some were bad, all are awesome.
