(Words and Photos by Suzy Bauter) Once a year a guy named Hutch (Alan Hutcherson) gathers friends from all over the racing community to have a “Fun Day at the Raceway” to benefit a special place for kids (and adults) with special needs, called Camp LIGHT (https://www.creativeworksfarm.org/). Now, Hutch knows some pretty cool racecar people seeing as he was the lead mechanic for George Poteet for a couple of decades…yeah, that Hutch.
This year the event moved from Holly Springs in Mississippi to Jackson Dragway in Jackson, Tennessee. The change of venue threw a few people off, but in the end thousands of dollars were raised for Camp LIGHT and so much fun was had drag racing, autocrossing, talking smack and making side bets to raise even more money. Fun Day at the Raceway will be held each year going forward at Jackson Dragway around the second week of April so be sure to get it on your calendar because for $25 you get to race all day long!
