I’ll admit that as someone who is watching the racing and not participating, that I enjoy the show a bit more than the science behind going fast, but sometimes even the show isn’t worth it. One of my favorite things to watch is also one of the worst things to have on the strip, and that’s G-body shuffle, though a lot of GM products tend to do the same thing, which is to plant the rear axle hard while the rest of the body and chassis torques up and to the right. It looks awesome, whether an old X-frame Impala is doing it or this Malibu that JMalcom shot does it. You can hear a fast car, you can see a car gain speed, but on the launch, this looks impressive as all hell. Not only does the car sound the business but it’s so wicked that it’s moving like an angry animal as it tries to get forward momentum going. Now, realistically, this is bad for a few reasons and is an indication that the suspension was an afterthought, but what are you enjoying more here: the speed or the show? If you don’t have a good answer to that question or are curious what it means, ask yourself this: what would ten-year-old you have enjoyed more?
It looks like something broke. You can see tire rub on the right side as it is going down the track at around 1:06 at a slower speed.
Shows are cool but dangerous is just that and no so cool.
