Altered wheelbases, supercharged engines and straight axles might would put any Aussie cop into spasms, wouldn’t they? Drive a gasser on the street one time and you might as well have knocked an old lady out in a church with a whiskey bottle. But like pretty much every other automotive trend out there, the Australians love the sketchy straight-axle style and have quite a few running on the strip. Most of these cars will be recognizable, either because they are American imports or are from the fledgling days of the Australian manufacturing standpoint where they were slightly tweaked American designs. One car, the red sedan delivery, has at least the author scratching his head…is that a Holden or an Aussie Ford? Whatever the case, it’s a runner, just like the four-door Galaxie. Consider this the Southern Hemisphere’s version of a Hot Rod Reunion, where the only burnouts seen are half-track jobs done by an Two-Lane style 1955 Chevy.

The red wagon is a Holden, late 50s, early 60s. For wagons especially I can never work out if they are FB, FC, FE, or EK model. I’m sure someone will clarify.
think 62 Holden if I remember my childhood in Canberra
Go forth and make a joyous noise!
EK Holden. The mini-me of the ’57 Chev
yep FB / EK Holden
Were straight-axle Dodge Darts ever a thing in the US?
Yeah right man! Northern Territory four highways have 130 kilometres per hour (81 mph) zones. Aussie love supercars. Many great places for extreme off-road adventure! Gassers is perfect for it.
